Season 8 of Fortnite could feature a crossover with Mad Max, as Season 7 comes to an end.

The ending of Fortnite Season 7 is just over the horizon, which means Season 8 will be kicking off later this month. It’s already rumoured that Epic Games is trying to get anime character Naruto for the next battle pass, and now it’s believed Mad Max will make an appearance too.

According to prominent Fortnite leaker and dataminer HYPEX, there is growing evidence that a desert biome is being planned for the next season, with a mummy skin and pyramid location possibly being included.

While the Mad Max films take place in a post-apocalyptic desert, that alone isn’t enough to confirm the crossover. But a new loading screen has been discovered which appears to explicitly reference the franchise.

Aside from the character in the loading screen looking like they stepped right out of Mad Max (even boasting a prosthetic arm similar to Furiosa), the skull steering wheel in the nearby car looks very similar to one seen in the movies.

Given Epic’s prior history with crossovers, it’s hard to imagine that is a simple reference to the movies and not indicative of at least a few Mad Max themed skins being added to the game.

When does Fortnite Season 7 end?

You won’t have to wait much longer to find out if this will be the case. Season 7’s finale is scheduled for September 12 and will once again feature a playable live event.

Titled Operation Sky Fire, it will wrap up the season’s alien invasion story arc and, judging from the description on the official website, will see you needing to disguise yourself and infiltrate the mysterious mothership that’s been floating above the island all this time.

‘With the Mothership’s sights set on the Imagined Order’s secret base at Corny Complex, Slone has hatched a plan to end the Invasion once and for all’, says Epic Games.

‘You’ve answered her calls, worked as an undercover agent for the IO – now it’s time to infiltrate The Last Reality and put a stop to the Alien’s occupation.’

Fortnite is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
