The addition of the ammo reticle in Fortnite has largely been a flop for most Fortnite players. Here’s how you can disable the feature and some considerations you should make before you do.
The ammo reticle is probably the most controversial decision Epic made at the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 2 – apart from the apparent vaulting of the patch notes.
Players awoke one update day to find that there was a strange bar next to their reticle. It’s an ammo indicator and tells you when you need to reload your weapon. It seems like a harmless addition to the game, but it was incredibly distracting when it first came out.
How to remove the Reticle Ammo Indicator
Fortunately, if you’re still struggling with the ammo reticle, there’s a way to turn it off. All you have to do is navigate to your settings, hit the cogwheel (the second option) and move over to “HUD.”
From there, you’ll be able to customize all elements of your HUD, including the “Reticle Ammo Indicator,” as it’s called. You can also remove or resize some other unwanted elements in this tab.
Should you remove it?
Now, we’re onto the bigger question: should you remove the ammo reticle? Does it really get in the way to the point where you should want it gone?
Caster and streamer Ballatw had an interesting take on the ammo reticle when it first came out. He’s overwhelmingly positive about it, saying it gives you more information without having to move your eyes.
We see his point, especially from a competitive position. It’s hard to complain about a more informative reticle when you have these kids running around with visual sound, performance mode, colorblind mode – all to gain small advantages.
Most players seem to have done away with this information. Very few players are constantly in late-game scenarios with 40 people alive. For the bulk of Fortnite players, reloading after shooting is second-nature.
Is the ammo reticle useful? Yes, but a lot of Fortnite players still…
