Fortnite update v12.61: what to expect

Epic have announced the downtime for Fortnite v12.61. The update will release on all platforms at 2:00 am on Tuesday, May 26.

We don’t know everything that the patch will bring, but we have some guesses. Here’s what to expect in tomorrow’s Fortnite update.

Aim assist nerf

This is, likely, the primary gameplay change that’s coming in the v12.61 patch. Following the v12.60 patch, Epic told players that they’d be working on an adjustment to controller aim assist on PC. They wanted to wait until after the FNCS, though.

Well, the FNCS wrapped up this past weekend, which means that Epic are free to change aim assist without affecting a tournament that’s in progress. We can expect to see this change go through in v12.61.

Will this substantially affect the power of controller players on PC? Will console players be affected? Will this nerf go the way of the last one, where little changed? We’ll have to wait and see.

Bug Fixes

It’s only been one week since the last patch, so we shouldn’t expect any new or major bugs to be addressed. The primary issue seems to be the inability to refund the Dragacorn Glider, which was recently changed due to pay-to-win complaints.

Here are all of the changes listed as ‘Fixed in next game update” on the Community Issues Trello board:

  • Numbers not changing on sports-themed Outfits.
  • Unable to refund Dragacorn Glider.

More Doomsday Event files

We can expect some more Doomsday event files to be added to the game after this patch, but most of them will, likely, be encrypted.

We won’t be giving too much of the event away – depending on what’s out there – but we’ll probably be able to gain some additional information about what to expect. Updating the event files is probably the primary reason…
