Fortnite pros Kreo, Bucke, Slackes, and Keys have been banned for 60 days in the wake of a ‘teaming’ scandal in the FNCS Week 1 competition.
This past weekend brought us the first week of the Fortnite Champion Series for Chapter 2 Season 2. Some of the biggest names in the game competed to earn their spots in the grand finals of each region.
In NA East, the duos of Kreo and Bucke and Keys and Slackes placed first and second, respectively. When viewers went back and watched their VoDs, however, they noticed something fishy about the early engagements between the two teams.
The two teams were landing in the Slurpy Swamp area, where shields are free. They would shoot one another for free storm surge tags, then leave eachother alone to heal up and continue looting.
For those who only play and watch casual Fortnite matches, storm surge is a way to limit the high player count in competitive games. When there are too many people left, storm surge starts to damage and eliminate players who haven’t done enough damage to their opponents.
As you can see in this clip, the duos were shooting one another to get 100 or more damage without ever pursuing the finish. After one engagement, Bucke can even be seen fishing without adequately protecting himself – knowing that he won’t get finished.
Several Fortnite pros immediately jumped on this clip and called for the four players to get banned. Many assumed that the XXiF and Ronaldo precedent of two weeks would be enforced, but Epic surprised many and banned them for 60 days – more than the duration of the FNCS tournament.
This is clear collusion and against the Fortnite competitive rules on ‘teaming.’ Epic recently banned passive in-game collision with pickaxe swinging, so getting free storm surge tags is obviously ban-worthy as well.
The duos defended themselves on Twitter, with Bucke stating that he and Kreo usually bloom-battle opponents who land at Slurpy Swamp in scrims. The fact that neither team died during the…
