Epic has reportedly delayed the end of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 yet again.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 is the longest season in Fortnite history. We’ve been playing the same season for 100 days at this point, which is enough to make even the most diehard fans take a break.
Not only that, but we’ve seen very little in the way of new content over the course of Season 1. We got the Winterfest update and Star Wars crossover. Both were cool, but neither changed the game in any meaningful way. We were still playing Season 1.
Now, it would appear that Epic is extending Season 1 even further. The new Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 release date is listed as February 20 in the game files.
Data miner @Hypex said that Season 1 was originally set to end on February 6, but previous reports had the end date as February 15. This is why the delay didn’t surprise me.
If previous leaks were accurate, it makes sense for Epic to extend the season for another five days. This puts it in line with other seasons, which usually begin on Thursdays.
If not, though, and Season 2 was always set to start on the 6, then we now have to wait two more weeks for more Fortnite content.
Let’s look on the bright side, shall we? Epic is clearly trying to polish Fortnite Season 2 as much as they can before they release it. The next season has to be huge, and Epic knows it. Players have been waiting for 100 days already, and we’re all expecting something massive when Chapter 2 finally drops.
A new Battle Pass and a couple of new items/weapons probably won’t be enough to avoid disappointing fans. At this point – with such a long season – Epic needs to bring us something that we don’t even know we want in order to satisfy the bulk of the community.
